Preparation tips before a biomechanical tattoo session in Montreal

Before the Session

Essential preparation

A great tattoo starts even before the needle touches your skin. Follow these tips to maximise your comfort and the quality of the final artwork.

  • Rest: Get at least 7–8 hours of sleep the night before your appointment.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water during the 24 hours leading up to your session.
  • Healthy skin: Lightly moisturise the area in the days before (no lotion the morning of).
  • Appropriate clothing: Wear loose garments that are easy to remove or roll back around the tattoo area.

What to avoid before your session

These factors increase bleeding, pain or interfere with stencil adhesion.

  • Alcohol (48 h) — thins the blood and slows healing.
  • Excess caffeine — heightens stress and sensitivity.
  • Ibuprofen, aspirin, anticoagulants (24 h) — same effect as alcohol.
  • DIY numbing creams — alter skin texture and compromise results.
  • THC — can negate the relaxing effect you’re aiming for.

What to do on the day of your session

  • Eat well — a balanced meal 1–2 h beforehand to avoid low blood pressure.
  • Bring water & snacks — crucial for long sessions.
  • Distractions — music, a book or headphones help you stay relaxed.
  • Tylenol (acetaminophen) — allowed to ease discomfort.
  • CBD (optional) — promotes relaxation without psychoactive effects.

Proper preparation speeds up healing and ensures crisp, long-lasting results.
